Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida, USA — Ava Dobson took part in Round 3 of the 2025 F1 Academy Championship as the Miami Grand Prix Wild Card Entry with HiTech GP supported byMorgan Stanley.
Dobson has been competing full-time in the 2025 GB4 Championship with Arden Motorsport, but earned the opportunity to participate in F1 Academy and jump onto the global stage for one weekend of the elite series that brings the absolute best women race car drivers together in competition, following the Formula One World Championship around the globe.
Taking on the challenge of a Wild Card Entry meant jumping into the F1 Academy race car for the first time at a brand new track against a field of ultra-talented competitors who were already experienced in the series.
The paddock around Hard Rock Stadium was buzzing with Formula 1 and F1
Academy racing fans from around the world. Dobson jumped right into the festivities meeting and greeting fans in her garage and showing off her brand new electric blue Morgan Stanley #90 liveried car and racing suit.
In practice sessions one and two, Dobson took great care to familiarize herself with the systems and general feel of the new car and technical Miami street circuit, coming in P17 and P16 respectively. However, she received a 3-place grid penalty for the races later in the weekend, due to a collision she was involved in on track.
With her signature level of resilience, Ava shined in Qualifying as she set a lap time quick
enough for P15, the best of any F1 Academy Wild Card Entry this year.
Then it came time for Dobson’s first real Race 1 in F1 Academy, in which she lined up on the
grid P18 due to the aforementioned penalty. This extra challenge only added to her tenacity, as she was able to get off the starting line with a competitive launch, drive consistent laps, avoid multiple incidents, and move up five positions to P13 at the checkered flag, representing the season-best result for an F1 Academy wildcard driver
“This F1 Academy car and I get along really well and I’ve felt quick all weekend. I’ve enjoyed every second of this experience and I hope for the chance to unlock my full potential in F1 Academy in the future. I want to thank F1 Academy, Morgan Stanley, and HiTech GP for this unbelievable opportunity to show the world what I am capable of.”
In cinematic fashion, rain poured down onto a soaked track before Sunday’s Race 2 was
scheduled to begin. During a long series of formation laps behind the F1 safety car, a signifiant number of drivers lost control of their cars and slid off track, although Dobson demonstrated her ability to fight the conditions and keep her wheels straight with the pack. However, the conditions were deemed unsuitable and Race 2 was postponed until the Canadian Grand Prix, in which Dobson will not participate due to the fact that participating in more than one round counts towards the two-season entry limit.
Although the weekend was cut short due to the elements, Ava Dobson was able to extract
outstanding results in Qualifying and Race 1 as the F1 Academy Wild Card Entry at the Miami Grand Prix .
